JFK Airport has extensive eating, shopping and facilities for everyone including the disabled within its nine main terminal buildings. JFK has eight passenger terminals in operation arranged in a U-shaped pattern around a central area containing parking, hotels, a power plant, and other airport facilities. On May 21, 2008, British Airways announced that it would undertake a $30 million, 18-month-long project to enhance its premium ground facilities at the terminal.
Currency Exchange, Money and Banking Facilities:
There are also a wide range of airport services and amenities at John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK), including business services, currency exchange, comprehensive international banking facilities. Business and conference facilities are available at JFK airport and there are a wide range of services provided by the airport; fax machines, photocopying machines, work areas, data ports, meeting rooms and conference facilities as well as telephones. In some terminals at the airport business facilities are restricted to airline members only (see terminal 5 and 6). Facilities for Disabled Travelers
JFK airport has numerous facilities to assist disabled passengers visiting New York. These disabled facilities include good access for wheelchair users, toilets for the disabled, lift / elevators, telephones for people with hearing impairments and clear sign posted throughout the airport. There are also handicap parking spaces close to JFK Airport's terminals, at a reduced rate. It is advisable for disabled travelers to inform the airport of any special requirements prior to arriving at JFK Airport. Car Parking Facilities
The airport provides daily and long-term parking facilities. There are car parks in front of each terminal, in the Central Terminal Area (CTA) parking area. The long-term car parking lot is located 6.5km (4 miles) from the terminals. The Howard Beach Station train operates between the long-term parking stations A or B and the Airline Terminal 1. The AirTrain at JFK airport runs from the Airline Terminal 1 to the other terminals. Passengers using the long-term car park should allow for at least 30 minutes to reach the terminals. Other Facilities
Other facilities at JFK airport include a shuttle bus connecting the airport's terminal building and a hotel booking service for passengers at JFK Airport. There are four chapels on the second floor in Terminal 4. The airport also has a medical centre, baby change facilities and shoe shine services. There are also numerous car rental facilities that offer shuttle service to their car rental facilities at not cost. Most cargo and maintenance facilities at JFK are located north and west of the main terminal area. Aircraft service facilities include seven aircraft hangars, an engine overhaul building, a 32-million gallon aircraft fuel storage facility, and a truck garage.
Eating and drinking: There are bars and restaurants located
throughout the airport.
Shopping: Plenty of shops are located throughout the terminals,
including duty-free in terminals 1, 2, 3, 4, 7, 8 and 9.
These shops include newsagents, gift shops, confectionary shops, a
tobacconists and a large duty free outlet, selling tax-free goods such as
cigarettes, alcohol, perfume and cosmetics.
